Icons Are This Way

So this christmas, my sisters and I made doctor who themed cutouts to eat durring David Tennant's last episode. They got much better than last years!
 
There's the doctor, master, donna, an ood, and the sonic and laser screwdrivers. Also, there's a mini tardis and a clock (since it is the end of time)


Our favorite ones were the doctor and the master. I think my sister did a great job on the eyes!

Oh, something I am glad about (it's ruined five seconds later, naturally, but NEVER MIND) ( spoilers for End of Time II )

Like the first book, I think that this is best read knowing as little as possible about the plot. Hence, no spoiler cut. I know you’ll click. (I really recommend not even looking at the cover if you haven’t read the first book.)

This duology (really a giant novel in two parts) is a version of the American Revolution unlike anything else I’m aware of, both in its approach and its protagonist. Told in a variety of ways-first person narrative, diary entries, letters, and official reports, all reminiscent of the style of the time, but easily accessible to contemporary readers-it presents many sides and stances regarding the war, but rarely the most common one, and successfully recreates the familiar time and setting into something new and unfamiliar, but still very true.

I'm sure people have made them before, but I'm looking for a .gif of the Master from season three when he does that frowny face to show displeasure (alternately a .gif of him giving thumbs up would also be appreciated). If anyone has something like this saved that he or she would share with me, or if someone could whip one up, I'd be so grateful. Thank you!

Empress is about Empress Wu, the 7th century woman who rose from humble backgrounds to rule China and eventually become the first female emperor. Sa’s recreation of 7th century China is very engrossing, but the book mostly reads as if Sa had originally intended to write a nonfiction book, and changed it at the last minutes to fiction. By adding a lot of sex scenes.

I’m not very familiar with Empress Wu, so I don’t know how it holds up to the publisher’s claims to this being a more sympathetic portrayal of her than most. If so, I suspect the typical portrayal to be rather nightmarish. Wu is ambitious and ruthless, as anyone would have to be to achieve what she did, but I also found her to be very hateful, and her near obsessive need to control the lives-especially the sex lives-of everyone around her made her a difficult character to read about, not to mention her physical, sexual and psychological abuse of others, which was largely centered on women

The world Sa recreates and the society she presents are very interesting and involving, but the characterizations of Empress Wu herself-along with the absence of any really likable characters- kept me from enjoying it as much as I wanted to.
